AMD CEO Lisa Su has positioned the company as a major AI winner through strategic deals and product innovation. Su struck a deal with OpenAI, offering an up to 10% stake in AMD in exchange for OpenAI committing to buy 10 gigawatts of AMD's GPUs for inference, a deal worth in excess of $100 billion. Meta Platforms signed a similar deal shortly afterward. Su also bet on AMD's chiplet design for the inference market and acquired ZT Systems to sell complete rack systems. AMD recently signed two new large GPU partners, Anthropic and Microsoft, for its next-generation GPUs, with AMD investing up to $5 billion in Anthropic. Anthropic will deploy 2 gigawatts of AMD's MI450 GPUs within its Helios rack-scale solutions, with the first delivery expected in the first half of next year. Microsoft will also use the Helios system for inference. For CPUs, Su positioned AMD as a leader in the server CPU market, with agentic AI expected to shift the GPU-to-CPU ratio from 8:1 for training to 1:1 for agentic AI. AMD upped its industry CPU forecast, predicting a $220 billion market in the next few years, with a goal of taking 50% market share.
