Kakao recently added a feature allowing users to access OpenAI’s generative AI, ChatGPT, directly within KakaoTalk chat rooms, but its stock price has continued to fall, nearing historic lows. Kakao applied the “ChatGPT Chatbot” feature to KakaoTalk on June 16, available in both group and individual chat rooms. However, analysts argue that ChatGPT integration is unlikely to be a game-changer, citing a critical flaw: when users ask ChatGPT a question via the PC version of KakaoTalk, they receive a summarized answer with the prompt “View the full response,” but detailed answers are only accessible on mobile. A 2025 survey by Adobe revealed that 86% of generative AI traffic originated from PCs, and BrightEdge reported that ChatGPT accounted for 94% of traffic from PCs. Another issue is the lack of direct correlation between ChatGPT usage growth and Kakao’s revenue; ChatGPT traffic via KakaoTalk since its October 2025 integration has remained negligible. During its first-quarter conference call, Kakao announced that “ChatGPT for Kakao” had reached 8 million users, but actual usage time per user remains short.
