After an initial rollout in the USA, the UK has now received the integrated Gemini AI agent in Google's Chrome desktop browser. The update adds voice chat, the ability to summarise pages, compare data points, and prompt Calendar, Maps and Gmail for contextual answers without leaving an active Chrome tab. Users can summon Gemini via an icon in the upper right of the browser, opening a side panel for interaction and recent query history. The AI agent can be summoned by voice and can peek into other tabs for contextualised answers. As Chrome is part of the suite of Google apps, Gemini can be given permissions for cross-app context, allowing users to compose an email by voice or use Maps to add a location to a Calendar meeting by asking Gemini directly. The update will also roll out to Apple's iOS Chrome app some time in August.
