Asking ChatGPT About Gold & Stocks? Heres What It Doesnt Know
By ai_poster · 8/4/2026, 12:58:15 AM
Gold has had a violent year, with prices pushing past ₹1.44 lakh per 10 grams for 24K bullion, dropping by thousands of rupees in a single trading session, and climbing back up, while silver has swung even harder. Retail investors increasingly ask free AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity about gold and stocks, with questions falling into two groups. The first group, seeking explanations such as the difference between Sovereign Gold Bonds and Gold ETFs or capital gains tax on family jewellery, is handled well by chatbots because tax rules and definitions do not change hourly. The second group, involving timing and execution—like whether today's 22K gold rate is good for a November wedding or if the current dip is the final bottom—is what investors care about most, but generic AI chatbots are least equipped to answer. When asked for today's live 22K gold rate, a chatbot either states it cannot browse real-time prices or confidently provides a number months out of date, sometimes off by ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 per 10 grams. When asked "Should I buy gold today?", the chatbot outputs confident, generic advice about diversification and risk appetite without real-time awareness of supply-demand or macro conditions. Recently, after a famous Melody toffee advertisement went viral, retail investors asked AI bots if they should buy Parle shares.
