Google has expanded Ask Maps, its conversational layer in Google Maps built on Gemini models, with updates for India, including Hindi language support, live public transport information, and a feature called Personal Intelligence that uses a user's email to shape suggestions. From today, Ask Maps will understand and reply in Hindi conversationally, covering place searches, route planning, and locality questions. Personal Intelligence lets users connect Ask Maps to Gmail, with support for other services like Calendar expected later, allowing the assistant to read flight or restaurant booking details from the inbox and factor them into answers. Gmail access is switched off by default and must be enabled by the user. For users with history settings on, Ask Maps will retain previous exchanges. The assistant also surfaces live data, including expected traffic, current weather, and how crowded a shop or restaurant is. Live data now extends to public transport, with a transit widget displaying current schedules and delays for buses, the metro, and trains; asking about departures from ISBT Kashmere Gate returns live timings across inter-city buses, local buses, and the metro, with route changes and connecting services, and estimated waits update automatically for delayed services.
