Paul Barbaste, an AI expert at Wavestone, was recognized among the winners of the Gemini 3 Hackathon organized by Google DeepMind for his project OrphaFold. More than 35,000 participants took part in the global competition. OrphaFold leverages a multi-agent AI architecture to accelerate research into rare diseases and identify new therapeutic opportunities. The solution relies on several specialized agents capable of automatically cross-referencing data from scientific databases such as Orphanet, UniProt, PubMed and AlphaFold. Its objective is to help researchers identify biological mechanisms, relevant clinical trials and therapeutic repurposing opportunities for rare diseases more quickly. OrphaFold was selected among around ten projects recognized by the jury. The award illustrates how artificial intelligence can address challenges with significant societal impact and reflects Wavestone’s commitment to responsible, impactful and value-creating AI.
