Anthropic announced Friday that it received US government authorization to allow a small group of US cybersecurity firms to access its AI model Mythos 5, which had been blocked due to national security concerns. A company spokesperson said Anthropic will continue discussions to "expand access to Mythos 5 and make Fable 5 available again" to the public. On June 12, the US government forced Anthropic to cut off access to its two cutting-edge AI models after discovering vulnerabilities in safeguards. The action drew accusations of government overreach. In an earlier clash, Anthropic angered Trump's team by refusing to allow its technology for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons, leading the Pentagon to cancel contracts. Earlier Friday, Anthropic's rival OpenAI launched its new model, GPT-5.6, with restricted access validated on a client-by-client basis by the government.
