Samsung Unveils 400-Layer AI Memory; Shares Rise 2%
By ai_poster · 8/6/2026, 2:49:00 AM
Samsung Electronics unveiled its V10 BV-NAND memory chips with over 400 layers and a wafer-bonding design at the Future of Memory and Storage conference in Santa Clara, targeting AI workloads. The technology increases memory storage density by approximately 58% compared to the previous V9 version. Samsung also presented concept models for zHBM and zNAND-O architectures that vertically stack memory above AI processors. Following the announcement, Samsung shares rose over 2% on August 5, 2026. The company posted a second-quarter 2026 operating profit of KRW 89.5 trillion on revenue of KRW 171.5 trillion, with an operating margin of 52.2%, driven by strong AI-specific memory demand. Investors remain cautious about cyclical risks in the smartphone and personal computer sectors, and market volatility persists as share prices can drop if figures do not beat analyst forecasts. To create stability, Samsung aims for multi-year customer deals to eventually account for 60% to 70% of its memory sales.
