On August 6, 2026, Suno cofounder and CEO Mikey Shulman announced the platform will begin marking generated tracks with audio watermarking and fingerprinting, and will integrate Sentinel, the copyright detection system built by Musixmatch. The announcement came six days after the Munich court ruled that Suno infringed copyright on six compositions belonging to the German collecting society GEMA, rejecting a defense based on United States fair use. Suno will prohibit the mass uploading of generated tracks to streaming platforms and published updated guidelines prohibiting deceptive audio presented as real and the use of a person's voice or likeness without permission. On July 31, 2026, the Landgericht Muenchen I decided case 42 O 763/25, the first European proceeding involving a generative music tool. The judge upheld most of GEMA's claims, prohibiting Suno from four activities regarding the six compositions: reproduction for training in the United States, reproduction through memorization inside the model in Germany, communication to the public through offering the model, and reproduction and communication to the public of the outputs.
