McDonald's Pools 220 Million Loyalty Records Into Single AI Training …

During its second-quarter earnings call on August 4, McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski disclosed the company is building an artificial intelligence platform trained on behavioral purchase data from 220 million customers and has nearly finished merging all of that data into a single global repository. "With all our data soon to be pooled in a global data lake," Kempczinski told investors, "we'll also be well positioned to capitalize on the new opportunities afforded by artificial intelligence." Details of the AI strategy are scheduled for the Investor Day on September 23, 2026, in Chicago. The MyMcDonald's Rewards program reached 220 million 90-day active users across 70 markets as of the end of the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 13% year over year. Over the trailing twelve months, systemwide sales to loyalty members surpassed $40 billion globally. Every loyalty member transaction records what they ordered, when, at which location, at what price, which promotional offers were displayed, and whether those offers influenced the transaction. The resulting dataset covers billions of behavioral data points per quarter. McDonald's has not publicly disclosed the total volume of data in the global loyalty dataset. The technology runs as a hybrid system combining in-restaurant edge computing with centralized cloud analytics, operating through a platform called Restaurant Platform Edge, developed in partnership with Google Cloud under a December 2023 partnership agreement.
