What are Copilot+ PCs? Everything you need to know

A Copilot+ PC is a Windows 11 computer meeting Microsoft’s hardware standard for advanced on-device AI features, requiring a compatible processor with a 40+TOPS NPU, 16GB DDR5 or LPDDR5 memory, and a 256GB SSD or UFS. These systems gain Windows features like Recall and Click to Do, which use the NPU to process information locally, reducing reliance on cloud servers. The Copilot app itself does not require this hardware, as a regular Windows 11 PC can still access Microsoft Copilot via an internet connection. Buying a Copilot+ PC does not automatically include a premium Copilot or Microsoft 365 subscription. The badge has expanded since the first Copilot+ laptops arrived in June 2024, when Snapdragon X processors were the only option. Current models can also use qualifying AMD Ryzen AI 300 and 400 series, Intel Core Ultra 200 and 300 series, and Qualcomm Snapdragon X series chips. A processor carrying one of those family names does not guarantee every configuration supports every feature; buyers should look for the actual Copilot+ PC badge and check the manufacturer’s specifications.
