Google Meet is being rebuilt around Gemini, with live speech translation across 63 languages and automated meeting notes now positioned as core parts of the product rather than experimental add-ons, according to an update detailed in a walkthrough published Wednesday. The update also brings a redesigned home page, task automation that runs after a call ends, and the ability to install Meet as a standalone application instead of running it through a browser tab. Live translation is restricted to premium plans and requires each participant's consent before it activates. The note-taking system transcribes and summarizes discussion whether a meeting happens on video or in a conference room, attaching timestamps and screenshots of shared material to the record. Two formats are offered: Quick Notes, which condense a session into a short list of decisions and action items, and Full Notes, which preserve a detailed transcript with embedded images for later review. Gemini can also turn a transcript into a draft plan or script, and Google Vids can assemble a video recap from the notes. Post-meeting work is routed automatically into Google Tasks and Workspace Studio, where follow-up emails, assignments and reminders can be generated and set to recur. The home page has been reorganized around days and weeks in sync with Google Calendar.
