Meta's camera-equipped AI glasses have been used to harass strangers, prompting backlash and causing some owners to leave them at home. In response, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced in an Instagram story that the company would ban any user uploading videos showing them harassing others, stating, "If you’re posting content that is taking advantage of people and harassing them, like a lot of these pickup line kind of videos that we’ve heard of and seen, then we’re going to take the content down." According to Business Insider, two large pickup artist accounts on Instagram have been deactivated, and a spokesperson confirmed they were banned for posting harassing content filmed with the glasses. Meta advises users to "turn off your glasses in sensitive spaces like the doctor’s office, locker room, public bathroom, school or place of worship" and to "obey the law," but has not elaborated on enforcement beyond Mosseri’s promises. Last month, Wired found that Meta had quietly infused unreleased facial recognition tech into the glasses, sparking controversy; chief technology officer Andrew "Boz" Bosworth later discussed the feature at length.
