Samsung Electronics established the “RX (Robotics eXperience) Business Promotion Office” on July 21, a robotics division reporting directly to President Tae Moon Roh, consolidating previously scattered robotics strategy, R&D, and commercialization capabilities. On July 22, President Roh stated in London, UK, “Robotics is the future growth engine of Samsung,” following the “Galaxy Unpacked” event, indicating the company aims to continue its “Galaxy legend” through robotics. Samsung is investing 19 trillion won in Gumi, mobilizing affiliates for an “all-in” approach. The head of the Robotics Strategy Team is Executive Vice President Donggun Lee, formerly of Boston Dynamics (Hyundai Motor Group), joined by Professor Hyunjin Kim (intelligent robotics control) and Professor Euikyeom Kim (robotic hands). A Mirae Asset Securities report on July 23 noted Samsung is moving from equity investments and securing advanced technologies to full-fledged commercialization. LG and Hyundai Motor are also restructuring, shifting from research to commercialization, with competition focusing on who will first validate and commercialize products in real-world environments.
