ICAI and Sarvam to Build an AI Model for India’s Chartered Accountant…

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Indian tech startup Sarvam AI are collaborating to build a domain-specific, sovereign large language model (LLM) for chartered accountants, called ICAI Sarvam AI for CAs. ICAI’s president, Prasanna Kumar D., shared the plan on Friday. The project aims to let CAs use AI while keeping client data private, ensuring that any work performed using the AI model remains within the institute’s ecosystem and does not leave the platform. This addresses the problem of CAs using public AI tools like ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude, where private client information cannot be fully controlled. The sovereign AI platform means India owns and controls it, reducing dependence on foreign tech firms. ICAI is also exploring tie-ups with OpenAI and Microsoft. So far, over 50,000 members have been trained in AI, and more than 150 GPT-based tools have been built. Additionally, a CA GPT forum launched in 2024 contains annual reports of nearly 5,000 listed companies.
