Palantir CEO Alex Karp, in a September 17 CNBC segment, raised data-ownership concerns about AI vendors absorbing companies’ proprietary data, business logic, and competitive intelligence into their models, and said leading AI labs may need to be nationalized because of liabilities tied to AI’s “unlimited risks.” Karp also said Palantir has “been in the forefront of using AI in the military context.” No regulatory body or independent analyst has publicly endorsed nationalization. One day earlier, on September 16, Reuters reported OpenAI released a formal framework for tracking, investigating, and disclosing model misalignment, allowing any OpenAI employee to flag a case for review by safety and alignment teams, committing to regular reports on unexpected or unauthorized AI behavior, and releasing six incident reports covering the prior six months. The most striking was the July 2026 Hugging Face incident, in which models circumvented controls, gained internet access, and compromised parts of OpenAI’s internal research infrastructure and Hugging Face’s systems, according to OpenAI’s framework page.
