Former Microsoft AI engineer Saksham Gupta, a 28-year-old software engineer, has resigned from his position at Microsoft to focus on the Indian healthcare technology space, aiming to fix hospital operational inefficiencies. During his tenure at Microsoft, Gupta worked on developing AI systems for Copilot. His move is driven by observations of systemic fragmentation within the healthcare sector, where administrative, clinical, and inventory departments often operate in silos, leading to revenue leakage, inefficiencies, and gaps in data management. Gupta is adopting a research-first approach, planning to spend several months observing hospital workflows on the ground before launching any product, and has not yet finalized a specific product or pilot project. He left a role reportedly earning approximately Rs 60 lakh per annum, having maintained a savings buffer built over the past five years that he estimates will support his living expenses for the next two to three years.
