The Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C), in collaboration with the Digital India BHASHINI Division, organised the BHASHINI Rajyam State Engagement Workshop in Panaji to identify multilingual AI solutions for improving citizen services. The workshop brought together senior government officials to explore practical AI use cases for last mile governance while showcasing progress of the Konkani Large Language Model (LLM), currently under development. Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister Rohan A. Khaunte said Goa’s AI vision is becoming reality through initiatives allowing citizens to interact with government platforms in Konkani. The workshop featured demonstrations of BHASHINI’s multilingual AI technologies, including a live demonstration that instantly converted spoken English into Konkani through real time transcription, translation and speech generation. Officials were introduced to AI powered translation, speech recognition and transcription technologies, and briefed on the National Hub for Language Technology, Shabd Udyan, BHASHINI’s website plug in supporting 22 Indian languages including Konkani, and the official BHASHINI mobile application. The workshop concluded with discussions on pilot AI projects across government departments. The ongoing development of the Konkani LLM, in partnership with the Directorate of Higher Education and the Directorate of Official Language, is expected to play a significant role in Goa’s long term vision of becoming a leading hub for multilingual AI powered governance.
