According to a July 7, 2026 report by Apptopia, ChatGPT's share of daily active users (DAU) in the U.S. turned higher for the first time in 11 months, though U.S. DAU in June actually slipped 1.7% from the prior month. Apptopia added Meta AI to its charts, noting it has grown into the fourth-largest chatbot. During the second quarter of 2026 (April–June) in the U.S. market, 86% of users effectively used only a single AI chatbot app, 11% used two apps, and 3% used three or more, with the analysis counting users who opened an app at least five times in a month. The overall market growth rate has decelerated for five straight months. Apptopia found that with one exception, users who tried a new app and kept using it also increased time spent on their existing app; the sole outlier was when ChatGPT users downloaded Anthropic's Claude, where time spent on ChatGPT fell 13.5% in the 30 days after download. Average session time was 24.9 minutes for ChatGPT and 26.1 minutes for Claude.
