VSLive! Opens at Microsoft HQ as Enterprise AI Moves From Experiment …
By ai_poster · 7/28/2026, 9:33:59 PM
VSLive! @ Microsoft HQ 2026 opened this morning in Redmond, Washington, with four full-day pre-conference hands-on labs and nearly 300 registered developers on the Microsoft campus. The five-day event, running July 27–31 at Microsoft Headquarters, includes a first-ever two-night AI hackathon with $25,000 in prizes. Across nine technical tracks, the Model Context Protocol (MCP) keeps appearing in sessions on SQL Server, Visual Studio, the Cutting-Edge AI track, and DevOps. MCP — introduced by Anthropic in November 2024 — was designed to solve the N×M integration problem. Microsoft, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind have all adopted it. By March 2026, MCP SDK downloads had reached 97 million per month with more than 10,000 public servers indexed across major registries — a 4,750 percent adoption growth rate in 16 months. One of the week's most technically significant sessions runs on Thursday when Bob Ward, Principal Architect for Microsoft Azure Data, and Anna Hoffman, Principal GPM for SQL Server and Azure SQL, deliver a live-demo-forward keynote called "SQL and AI for Developers in Action," demonstrating how SQL Server 2025's native AI capabilities allow developers to build intelligent, data-grounded applications without routing everything through external AI services.
