Cursor announced Tuesday a dedicated India plan, Cursor Start, priced at ₹649 (about $7) a month, below its standard $20-a-month Pro plan and billed in rupees. The move follows Anthropic’s rollout of rupee pricing for Claude in India, though Anthropic’s India pricing converts to more expensive than the US equivalent. Both announcements came two weeks apart, part of a push by AI firms into India, one of the largest and fastest-growing developer markets. Cursor’s blog post said its India user base grew threefold in the past year to more than 3 million developers, making it its third largest market, with more power users and more agent requests per developer than any other market. Anthropic previously revealed India is its second-biggest market after the US for Claude.ai usage. Cursor Start bundles Cursor’s Composer model with SpaceXAI’s Grok 4.5, cloud agents, the Cursor iOS app, and MCP support, but excludes frontier models from OpenAI or Anthropic and Pro-only features like Bugbot, Auto Mode, Automations, or the Cursor SDK. The plan supports UPI, letting users pay directly from a bank account. Cursor’s investment in Composer reduces dependence on costly third-party models, making the low price commercially viable.
