At Universiti Brunei Darussalam's (UBD) 38th Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and UBD Chancellor, called for responsible AI use and digital leadership. He stated that universities must not merely produce graduates proficient in AI, but ensure graduates can use technology wisely and responsibly while upholding values, proper conduct and sound judgement. His Majesty welcomed the launch of the UBD Digital Transformation Blueprint as a roadmap for transforming teaching, research and governance, urging UBD to establish itself as a leader in the transformation. He emphasised that academic excellence alone is meaningless without good morals, citing a hadith narrated by Al-Bukhari: "Indeed, the best among you are those who have the best character." He also welcomed the GenBESTARI Curriculum beginning in September this year, describing it as an approach to producing well-rounded graduates who are knowledgeable, of noble character, resilient, digitally literate and prepared for lifelong learning. Its success should be measured by the development of graduates' mind-sets and human values, not solely by the number of programmes implemented. His Majesty also acknowledged UBD's efforts to enhance graduate employability through career guidance and industrial training as proactive measures to reduce unemployment.
