In Boston, Rama Ramakrishnan, Professor of the Practice in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at the MIT Sloan School of Management, discusses AI as a strategic business imperative in Part 2 of a three-part masterclass. He explains how organizations can move beyond experimentation to create lasting business value by integrating AI into decision-making, intelligent products, customer experiences, and enterprise innovation. Ramakrishnan emphasizes that leaders must develop strategies embedding AI into their organization’s culture, operations, and long-term vision, rather than merely adopting new tools. Before joining MIT Sloan, he spent more than two decades as a technology entrepreneur and executive, founding software companies later acquired by Oracle, Demandware, and Salesforce. As Senior Vice President at Salesforce and Chief Data Scientist for Salesforce Commerce Cloud, he led Salesforce Einstein for Commerce, an AI platform powering personalized shopping for hundreds of millions of consumers monthly. The platform evolved from CQuotient, his AI startup, which was acquired by Demandware before becoming part of Salesforce in its $2.8 billion acquisition of Demandware. His earlier roles included leadership at Oracle, ProfitLogic, and McKinsey & Company. At MIT Sloan, he teaches predictive and generative AI, intelligent products, and hands-on deep learning. The session covers identifying meaningful AI use cases, avoiding implementation pitfalls, and building capabilities for sustainable competitive advantage, framing AI as a catalyst for organizational change influencing strategy and innovation.
