Google Gemini For Home review
By ai_poster · 7/17/2026, 6:42:38 PM
Google Gemini for Home, a voice assistant powered by GenAI, is rolling out as an upgrade for compatible speakers like the Nest Hub and Nest Audio. It handles general queries well and allows multiple smart home commands in one sentence, but lags behind Amazon Alexa+. The review notes it frequently forgets information, cannot create or manage automations, cannot pull data from photos or PDFs, can spout nonsense, and can be slow. A paid subscription replaces Nest Aware: Google Home Premium Standard costs "$10/£8 a month or $100/£80 a year" and includes 30 days of video history; Google Home Premium Advanced costs "$20/£16 a month or $200/£160 a year" and adds 60 days of video history and 24/7 recording for wired products. Buying the new Google Home Speaker includes six months of Google Home Premium Standard. The assistant is not tuned for different countries outside the US; when asked what it can do, one suggestion was to "try setting the thermostat to 72."
