Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, in his first-ever post on X, highlighted a letter signed by Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI, Mistral, and others on Friday urging US policymakers not to crack down on open-weight AI models. "AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country," Huang wrote, adding that "open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty." The signatories wrote that "our AI leadership will be judged not by one frontier AI model, but by whether the United States builds a strong, open ecosystem that diffuses into every sector." The letter comes as top Trump administration officials have suggested action against Moonshot AI, creator of the Kimi K3, the world's most powerful open-weight AI model. OpenAI, initially absent, signed on by Friday evening. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said earlier Friday he was "glad to see" the support, writing "i want the US to win in AI both in open source and proprietary models." Elon Musk later signaled support, writing "this has my full support" and "Jensen is right."
