Xiaohongshu announced on September 3, 2026, via its official account "Xiaoshuguanjia" that from June to August this year it removed and disposed of nearly 120,000 fake notes produced and published by AI. The platform listed three typical violating content types: AI-fabricated medical aesthetic experiences, AI-fabricated homestay text and photo experiences, and AI-fictionalized family backgrounds and educational experiences for selling teaching supplementary materials. The article illustrates the problem through Lin Wei, a young woman from Hangzhou who planned a weekend in Dali and selected a "niche designer homestay" with a 4.9 score based on notes showing Cangshan Mountain, Erhai Lake, Bai ethnic courtyards and sunrises in front of French windows; after a three-hour flight and a one-hour drive on winding mountain roads, she found the homestay hidden in a dusty alley, the "French window" facing a mottled cement wall, and the blue Erhai Lake was a blue backdrop cloth on the roof. She later learned the pictures were all AI-generated. The article states that AI-generated content is often substandard in "accuracy" and "human authenticity", and that tools such as Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and GPT-4o let one person generate hundreds of "personal experience notes" a day, whereas counterfeiting previously required real people, phones and hours of investment.
