Nvidia CEO: US should not ban Kimi, Chinese AI models
By ai_poster · 7/22/2026, 8:59:55 PM
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the US government should not ban or restrict Chinese artificial intelligence models such as Moonshot AI's Kimi K3 chatbot, arguing that open models are important for innovation and security. In an extract of his interview for Axios Behind the Curtain released on Wednesday, and asked whether Washington should limit the use of Kimi or other Chinese AI systems, Huang said: "I hope not, and I really don't think so." Huang said open models are needed for science, cybersecurity, national security and economic security, adding that Chinese models can be adapted and secured by users. "Absolutely," he said when asked if US companies should be allowed to use Chinese AI models, rejecting concerns over potential backdoors. He also said the industry had "misunderstood" the impact of Chinese AI models such as DeepSeek and Kimi K3, arguing they could drive broader AI adoption and encourage more use of Nvidia computers and construction of more data centers.
