At a recent business conference, a listener noticed that speeches by India's brightest minds followed a pattern, with every speaker sounding "way more similar than they used to." This pattern was also observed in articles and social media posts by verified accounts. The listener asked ChatGPT why, and it admitted it is "obsessed with the contrast framing of sentences" and "takes control of the reader's mental model." While AI is a useful writing tool that fixes grammar and helps organise thought, especially for people writing in a second or third language, it is "making intelligent people sound identical." Evidence includes repeated constructions like "This is not a challenge; it is an opportunity" and "The question is no longer whether, but how." These formulations appear in speeches, opinion pieces, annual reports, social media threads, and television debates. The problem is that AI writing is "too perfect" and "too free of the hesitations and instincts that make writing feel like it came from a person working something out."
