Apple has settled a false advertising lawsuit over promised Apple Intelligence features, agreeing to pay $250 million to customers who bought certain iPhones during a specified period, but payouts will take more than a year to arrive. The lawsuit alleged that Apple misled customers by promoting AI features that did not ship when the iPhone 16 and some iPhone 15 models were released. Eligible customers may receive between $25 and $95 per device. The case moved forward as of July 17, with the Court granting preliminary approval of the settlement, meaning it is not a final ruling on fairness. Apple advertised the iPhone 16 lineup in 2024 as optimized for AI features like an enhanced Siri, but Apple Intelligence was not ready at launch; its first features arrived with iOS 18.1 five weeks later. Some features like Visual Intelligence, Live Translation, Writing Tools, Genmoji, and Clean Up shipped soon after, but the advanced Siri interactions advertised are only starting to appear in iOS 27, expected later this year. Eligible customers purchased one of the following devices between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025: iPhone 16, iPhone 16E, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro models are included due to their processor and memory capable of running Apple Intelligence.
