3M Company reported second-quarter 2026 results with sales of US$6,500 million and net income of US$933 million, and completed a US$5,733.53 million share repurchase program that retired 36,390,756 shares since February 2025. The company also announced a partnership with Microsoft to deploy its Expanded Beam Optical technology in Azure data centers while adopting Microsoft’s AI tools across key corporate functions. The Q2 2026 earnings lift and buyback completion marginally support the near-term margin and earnings story, but PFAS litigation and related regulatory risk remain the biggest overhang. 3M’s narrative projects $27.2 billion revenue and $4.9 billion earnings by 2029, requiring 2.8% yearly revenue growth and about a $2.1 billion earnings increase from $2.8 billion today. Some pessimistic analysts previously projected 3M’s revenue at about US$26.6 billion and earnings near US$4.6 billion by 2029, citing PFAS costs and restructuring risks as outweighing benefits from the Microsoft AI partnership.
