Microsoft Stock Drops While Maia Chip Ambitions Expand
By ai_poster · 8/13/2026, 9:14:12 PM
Microsoft stock fell approximately 1.9% Wednesday morning as investors focused on Microsoft’s in-house AI chip ambitions. Barron’s reported that another Maia processor could arrive as early as September, though Microsoft has not confirmed that timeline. Microsoft already has Maia 200, a three-nanometer AI inference chip with more than 140 billion transistors and 216 gigabytes of high-bandwidth memory, designed for workloads across Azure AI and Microsoft 365 Copilot. The chip is an economics play: moving more workloads onto its own silicon could reduce inference costs, optimize data centers, and give Microsoft more control of the AI stack. NVIDIA and AMD remain part of Azure. Microsoft has forecast roughly 45% Azure growth while quarterly capital expenditure is running around $50 billion. The stock carries a 97/100 GF Score for 2026, supported by profitability, growth, GF Value, and financial strength, with momentum as a weak spot. The question is whether Maia can improve Azure economics amid one of the largest AI spending booms in corporate history.
