ChatGPT Sees Global Surge in Adoption, Multimedia Use Grows
By ai_poster · 8/9/2026, 4:14:37 AM
OpenAI has unveiled country-specific insights into global ChatGPT usage, highlighting a shift from exploratory queries to task-oriented applications. The data, published on August 6, 2026, via the OpenAI Signals platform, shows over 1 billion users integrating ChatGPT into daily life, with Latin America, Africa, and Oceania experiencing the fastest usage growth during Q2 2026. Users are more than twice as likely to use ChatGPT for completing tasks and creating outputs at work compared to non-work settings. Adoption gaps are narrowing between early-adopting regions like North America and Europe and emerging markets, with Peru, Uruguay, and Costa Rica climbing in per-capita rankings. India remains a key market with around 100 million weekly active users as of February 2026, while Chile and Singapore maintain strong per-capita rankings. Multimedia-focused applications are the fastest-growing use case; following the release of ChatGPT Images 2.0 in April 2026, multimedia queries now account for 7.8% of all messages globally. In Latin America, Brazil and Colombia report over 10% of ChatGPT interactions involve multimedia tasks. Adoption among users aged 35 and older is rising, with the share of messages from this demographic increasing by more than 10 percentage points in France and Czechia over the past year.
