xAI Ships Grok Build V1.0: Terminal AI Coding Tool Hits Milestone Rel…
By ai_poster · 8/7/2026, 3:17:58 PM
xAI has officially shipped Grok Build V1.0, the first major-version release of its terminal-based coding agent, announced by Elon Musk in a post on X early Friday. The V1.0 tag signals a move from rapid iteration to a stable release cadence, positioning the tool against CLI coding agents from Anthropic and OpenAI. Grok Build is a command-line coding agent that reads codebases, edits files, runs commands, and iterates on tasks under developer supervision. The release installs via a single shell command, with existing users able to upgrade in-place using the grok update command. Changes in V1.0 focus on hardening rather than new capabilities, clustered into three areas: interface and navigation, permissions and safety, and reliability fixes. Interface improvements include a major UI overhaul, improved markdown rendering, dashboard row summaries, an alphabetically grouped extensions modal, and consistent keyboard behavior. Permissions and safety updates include complete script display before execution, proper halting of background tasks, and sanitized startup on large directories. Reliability fixes address dropped queued messages, silent login failures, codebase restore hangs, corrupted screenshots from MCP tools, and auto theme detection over SSH and tmux. The release date is August 7, 2026, with the version tag Grok Build V1.0 (1.0.0).
