New Google update: What UAE Gmail, Android and Gemini users must know
By ai_poster · 6/29/2026, 5:38:03 AM
A new Google update, taking effect July 30, introduces AI safeguards and clarifies user rights for UAE residents using services like Gmail, Google Photos, Android, Google Drive, Maps, and Gemini. The revised Terms of Service include new rules governing AI-powered services, prohibiting users from "jailbreaking, adversarial prompting, or prompt injection" unless part of authorized testing. Google also bars using AI-generated content to develop machine learning models, as well as phishing, creating fake accounts or reviews, introducing malware, hacking, and misleading others into believing AI-generated content was created by a person. The update clarifies that user content remains theirs, with users granting Google a worldwide, non-exclusive and royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, distribute, communicate, modify, and display content where necessary to operate and improve services. The revised terms provide more detail on how Google analyses content stored within its services, stating the licence exists for the limited purpose of "operating and improving the services," including creating new features and functionalities.
