Zillow, which connects over 250 million monthly users to home-related services, unified its data systems on the Databricks Platform with Unity Catalog to replace an array of tools and address data silos caused by growth, acquisitions, and compliance requirements. By standardizing on Databricks, Zillow unlocked self-service insights through Genie and laid a foundation for agentic AI. The platform now serves 1,500+ monthly active internal users while reducing infrastructure and operational costs by 65% following consolidation. Lakebase extended that foundation by giving the AI team a persistent memory layer for conversational experiences. According to Jaycen Grant, Director of Engineering, Data Platform at Zillow, "With Lakebase, we can immediately access low-latency data that’s already governed through Unity Catalog, eliminating substantial incremental work. It unlocked datasets that were previously out of reach and has been a key ingredient for agentic use cases." The consolidation resolved challenges where siloed systems and separated systems slowed ambitions, including a single data integration for a new acquisition consuming months and cross-domain data requests requiring weeks of manual coordination.
