On July 27, Moonshot AI released the full weights of K3 on Hugging Face under the Modified MIT license, with 2.8 trillion parameters. This followed the suspension of new consumer user subscriptions on July 20 due to tight computing power. The 594GB weight file, after MXFP4 quantization, requires 8 H100 80GB GPUs to barely fit into video memory, with production-level scenarios typically needing super nodes of more than 64 H100 GPUs and hardware costs starting at millions of dollars. Full self-hosting is currently exclusive to top cloud vendors and large scientific research institutions. On the day of the open-source release, overseas platforms such as Together AI and Modal announced day-0 access, while domestic platforms including Tencent Cloud ADP, TokenHub, Alibaba Cloud Bailian, the National Supercomputing Internet, and OpenHubs from Zhidemai Technology launched K3 call channels immediately, allowing small B-end users to directly call cloud vendors' APIs instead of buying GPUs.
