SpaceXAI is set to expand public access to its frontier AI model, Grok 4.5, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, following a private beta testing period within SpaceX and Tesla. According to CEO Elon Musk, the model delivers “Opus-class” performance rivaling Anthropic’s Claude Opus while running faster, more token-efficiently, and at a lower cost. Grok 4.5 is built on the new V9 foundation architecture with 1.5 trillion parameters, a jump from the older V8-small architecture at roughly 500 billion parameters. Primary training on the V9 base concluded on May 26, 2026. Following SpaceX’s $60 billion acquisition of the AI coding platform Cursor, engineers integrated developer workflow and coding session data into Grok 4.5 during post-training. The model underwent continuous optimization via the Grok Build harness. Early beta feedback indicates it manages context windows and multi-step workflows with precision at production-ready speed. The release comes as the Grok app’s average daily active users in the US slipped by nearly 28% between April and June, with market share contracting from 10.6% down to 8%.
