The National University of Singapore (NUS) and OpenAI will expand their strategic collaboration to give every NUS student, faculty member, and staff access to ChatGPT Edu and Codex, including enterprise-level security and controls. OpenAI announced the expansion on Tuesday, based on an earlier collaboration with the NUS School of Computing announced in March 2026. The cooperation is supported by a survey of 514 university students in Singapore, which found that 94 percent use AI several times a week or more, with 55 percent using it multiple times a day. Additionally, 84 percent believe AI literacy will become as fundamental as digital literacy, writing, or numeracy, while 95 percent want more opportunities to use advanced AI tools on real-world university projects, and 88 percent want to build an AI app, product, or company while at university. Among 18-to-24-year-olds, OpenAI found approximately 43 percent of ChatGPT usage in Singapore is related to learning and education. Under the expanded collaboration, ChatGPT Edu will initially be piloted in selected courses before being introduced into undergraduate courses. Students can participate in hackathons and build days, and NUS researchers and OpenAI teams will explore collaborative research.
