Tesla Inc.'s artificial intelligence lead, Ashok Elluswamy, said Optimus has "big shoes to fill" after the decommissioning of the Model S and X production line at the Fremont facility, as the company gears up for Optimus humanoid robot production. In a post on X, Elluswamy quoted a video from the official Tesla Manufacturing handle showcasing the decommissioning, adding, "Big shoes to fill, but I’m confident Optimus will not disappoint!!" Earlier, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the first production line for Optimus had been successfully put in place at the facility. Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, said the automaker could see up to 40 production lines for the Robot. Musk also said the humanoid Robot would enable greater access to "excellent" healthcare for people. Separately, the Tesla Model Y SUV became the best-selling vehicle in the Chinese market in June 2026, selling more than 38,000 units, after also being the best-seller in March 2026 with more than 39,000 units. Tesla also unveiled the U.S.-spec Model Y L, priced at $61,990. Tesla shares were down 1.33% to $402.33 during premarket trading on Monday.
