Microsoft released optional update KB5101681 for Windows 11 version 26H1, bringing the operating system to build 28000.2608. The update fixes taskbar icon rendering, File Explorer home screen behavior during OneDrive synchronization, desktop switching animations, and acrylic blur rendering bugs across the Start Menu, Settings app, and Lock Screen. It also resolves Start Menu responsiveness when left-aligned, improves Group policy reliability, and makes the Background Intelligent Transfer Service terminate faster during shutdowns. Stability updates eliminate login issues with third-party credentials, enhance HD Audio driver reliability, correct color profile behavior, and fix application scrolling on multi-monitor setups. Windows Update now includes an Update Pause Calendar, Widget functionality was updated, and location settings options will no longer appear when location services are off. Voice typing now supports French, German, and Spanish with real-time grammar and punctuation corrections and improved speech recognition in noisy environments. Touchpad settings allow customizing right-click zone sizes, and Japanese handwriting recognition was refined for English characters. The build enhances Confidential Virtual Machine performance, addresses Hyper-V bugs, reduces Wi-Fi-related Blue Screen of Death errors, improves compatibility with third-party VPN applications, simplifies printer installation, and expands native support for running larger local artificial intelligence models.
