The San Francisco 49ers face a decision for their first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft between reinforcing the offensive line or strengthening a struggling defensive front. The pass rush produced just 20 sacks last season—the lowest total in the NFL. At left tackle, All-Pro Trent Williams turns 38 in July, though the team appears set at both tackle spots for 2026 with Williams and Colton McKivitz. In a mock draft from Touchdown Wire, Kyle Madson of Niners Wire selected former Miami defensive end Akheem Mesidor for the 49ers at No. 27 overall. Madson noted Mesidor "didn't break out in college until his age 24 season" and "will be 25 on Draft Day," but he posted a career-high 12.5 sacks last season. Madson added, "Mesidor is a three-down player who plays with the level of strength and violence on the edge that should allow him to step in and be effective on Day 1." Jacob Camenker of USA Today also released a first-round mock draft using Meta AI, which "needed only to be prompted once to create its initial mock draft, which featured the correct draft order, only draft-eligible players, and no duplicate picks."
