Disney’s TikTok creator deal follows end of $1 billion OpenAI plan

Disney and TikTok announced a new global partnership Wednesday that will bring fan-made TikTok videos into the Disney+ app, piloting in the U.S. in the coming months. The videos will appear in Verts, the vertical video feed Disney+ added to its mobile app in March 2026, where subscribers can swipe through short clips and add titles to their watchlist. Disney also announced a Creator Ambassador Program offering selected TikTok creators increased visibility, exclusive-event access and career-development opportunities. According to Reuters, this marks the first time TikTok videos have been distributed on a platform outside TikTok. Participating creators will have their videos run on both TikTok and in Verts, featuring characters from Disney brands including Pixar, Marvel, “Star Wars” and FX, with the collection refreshing regularly. On Disney’s third-quarter earnings call, CEO Josh D’Amaro said the deal “creates a more complete experience on Disney+, and it’s a stickier app,” adding that by the end of this calendar year, subscribers will also get live TV and add-ons. Internal TikTok data showed fans shared an average of 6.5 million film and television posts on TikTok every day last year, and nearly half of surveyed viewers said they went on to watch a movie or show on a streaming service after finding entertainment content there.
