Vocalinux, a GPLv3-licensed offline voice dictation and speech-to-text solution for Linux, has released version 0.14 beta. It works on both X11 and Wayland desktops, leveraging Whisper.cpp for microphone audio processing, with alternatives like VOSK or OpenAI Whisper with PyTorch. The beta adds configurable keyboard shortcuts, FunASR/SenseVoice support for remote API engines, Wayland fixes, and better handling of CPU-based Whisper.cpp support on hybrid CPU laptops. Vocalinux supports a desktop tray UI and configurable hotkeys, and aims to be Linux distribution and desktop agnostic, unlike the in-development Canonical Myna.
