TeamViewer’s study, ‘Path to the Autonomous Workplace’, examines the shift from AI assistance to autonomous systems. The research found that 75% of respondents use AI at least once a day, 64% describe their experience as positive, and only 3% report no workplace benefits. In IT, 26% of leaders describe their departments as at least partially autonomous, and 99% would be comfortable delegating at least one task to AI. However, 61% of total respondents prefer AI to take no independent action, while 35% are ready to allow more autonomy, with 71% of that group comfortable only with defined tasks. Only 5% have no concerns about AI operating without human oversight. Andrew Hewitt, TeamViewer’s VP of Strategic Technology, said the AI trust gap stems more from implementation than a lack of belief in the technology’s value. He noted that while 75% use AI daily and 97% recognise its value, 95% still expect human oversight as AI becomes more autonomous. Employees need clarity on AI permissions, governance, and accountability. Organisations can close the trust gap by establishing clear permissions, safeguards, and escalation paths, which may encourage greater delegation of responsibility to AI.
