The Ohio State University has partnered with Google to open an AI hub in its West Campus Innovation District, giving researchers and students access to advanced computing, Google AI models and collaboration with Google DeepMind. The partnership with Google Public Sector will bring a dedicated on-campus space, advanced AI and computing resources, and new student research opportunities to Ohio State’s West Campus. Ohio State describes the agreement as one of the largest foundational partnerships between Google Cloud and a U.S. university, and says the planned physical and virtual space will be among the first Google spaces on a university campus. University President Ravi Bellamkonda highlighted the partnership Thursday in his first State of the University address, saying Google engineers would be embedded with graduate students, student researchers, faculty, and staff to work on projects central to Ohio State’s mission. Officials said the arrangement will support research in biomedical engineering, earth sciences and the humanities through access to Google AI models, high-powered computing, student research ambassadors and collaboration with Google DeepMind. The deal is intended to support the second year of Ohio State’s AI Fluency Initiative, and students beginning with the Class of 2029 will graduate able to apply AI in their academic fields. Ohio State has added or expanded dozens of AI-focused courses this year, and the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning is expanding AI-fluency resources for instructors.
