Google Gemini helped a writer who disliked running prepare for the Sydney City2Surf, a 14km hilly race from Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach on August 9. The writer asked Gemini in late December 2025 for a beginner training plan, and the AI provided a three-phase schedule: Foundation (Now–March, ~12 weeks) focusing on a run-walk method 2–3 days a week; Building (April–June, ~12 weeks) adding long runs, hills, and strength training; and Race Specific (July–August, 6–8 weeks) with a longest run of 12km–13km two weeks before race day. Gemini noted that most beginner plans require 12–16 weeks. The writer also used Gemini to get step-by-step instructions for entering workouts into a Garmin watch, and tested the new Garmin Forerunner 170 Music edition, which offered built-in music, Garmin Pay, and voice prompts, replacing the need to carry a heavy iPhone 16 Pro Max during runs.
