Lindy CEO Flo Crivello Wants a Ban on the Chinese AI Models His Own S…

In late July 2026, Flo Crivello, CEO of AI employee startup Lindy, said on The Cognitive Revolution podcast that "We have AGI. We're in takeoff and we've not figured out alignment," reporting that friends at frontier labs are "panicking" and that there is "intense fear in the air." Crivello's company builds Lindy Teammate, an AI employee that lives inside Slack, accumulates a company's entire institutional memory, and performs knowledge work alongside human colleagues. The product is live, with a novel architecture and deliberately unsustainable economics. Crivello wants Chinese frontier models banned in the United States, even though Lindy runs on DeepSeek by default. He cannot stop using them unilaterally because competitors would not, so he wishes they were "forbidden across the board." Lindy Teammate connects to a company's Slack, Notion, Google Docs, and other tools, then undergoes "hydration"—a crawl of the entire workspace history that constructs a file system backed by a Git repository. The memory system has a personal layer for private DMs and individual notes, and a workspace layer for public channels, meeting transcripts, and shared documents. A background "memory agent" runs continuously, executing roughly every 15 minutes, and decides what belongs in each tier. The retrieval architecture includes "context buckets"—sub-agents that stand in for action results.
