OpenAI announced Monday (Aug. 10) that it will begin offering “Premium” seats for ChatGPT business customers, providing five times more usage than Standard seats and removing a five-hour usage limit. The company said Premium seats cost $125 per user per month, or $100 per user each month when billed annually, while Standard seats remain at $25 per user per month, or $20 per user per month with yearly billing. OpenAI debuted ChatGPT in November 2022 and has led consumer AI, but faces stiffer competition from rival Anthropic’s Claude, which has become a favorite among enterprise users. PYMNTS CEO Karen Webster noted that ChatGPT expands from consumer trust into the workplace, while Claude enters through work contexts where precision matters, making the enterprise its starting point. Recent PYMNTS Intelligence research finds AI adoption is often strongest in back-office areas, with revenue recognition topping financial services use cases at 65%, followed by credit risk assessment and sales forecasting at 60% each. The report said AI is gaining ground where firms can test output and trace decision-making.
