Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth said during an internal employee Q&A session in early July that AI-driven productivity gains should not be used to increase time off, calling the idea "stupid." According to a Business Insider report, the exchange stemmed from an employee asking whether AI-enabled productivity improvements could reinstate the canceled "Meta Days" supplemental holiday program. Bosworth said the time saved should be used to build more products for users, stating, "I get an extra hour, you know what I'm going to do with it? I'm going to put it into that." He told the employee, "stop asking about Meta Days, it's stupid," and suggested asking parents about the career strategy of requesting more days off. After expressing these views, Bosworth apologized if he had been "too harsh" and noted the question seemed tongue-in-cheek. Meta previously offered "Meta Days" but replaced the program with two "Choice Days." Currently, Meta provides employees with four weeks of paid vacation per year, in addition to public holidays. Meta has not issued an official statement on Bosworth's remarks. His comments come amid a broad tech industry debate over AI's impact on productivity, with some workplaces adopting more intensive models, as exemplified by Amazon's embrace of a more demanding work environment due to AI adoption.
