Dubai is Building an Open-Source AI Model to Detect Deepfake Videos
By ai_poster · 9/19/2026, 1:08:44 AM
Dubai is preparing to launch SARAAB, an open-source AI model designed to detect deepfake videos by analysing facial features and motion, the Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC) announced at GISEC Global 2026, taking place from September 16 to 18 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City Dubai. SARAAB is expected to launch by the end of 2026 and can identify hidden synthetic layers, including cases where only part of a video has been manipulated. An Emirati team at DESC developed the model, which analyses facial features through a heat map; Hassan Majid Alkhazraji, Senior Artificial Intelligence Executive at DESC, said the system can analyse an entire video even when only a small section has been altered, such as manipulation in the final 30 seconds of a two-minute video. DESC claims the model can achieve 91% accuracy, though the announcement does not provide details about the dataset, evaluation method, or testing conditions, so the figure should be treated as a DESC claim rather than an independently verified benchmark. DESC plans to make SARAAB available through developer platforms, with Hugging Face expected to host the model.
